FBCVM Nursery Worker Job Description (updated Jan. 2024)
The nursery shall be available for Sunday morning services , for Wednesday afternoon/evening activities and for the week of Vacation Bible School and Music Camp. The nursery shall open at 9:30am on Sunday mornings, and at 3:30 pm on Wednesdays during our after-school program. Start times for VBS and Music Camp will depend on those activities’ schedules. Two nursery workers need to be present at all times that the nursery is open. If a nursery worker needs to be out, they are responsible for contacting a volunteer to cover (list of contacts is provided). At least a week’s notice should be provided for a planned time off. They should also make the church office aware. Nursery workers (and volunteers) will all have to have a background check on file with the church office. This job requires frequent bending and the ability to lift 50 pounds.
The following is a list of duties of the nursery workers:
1. Be responsible for emptying trash cans and disposing in dumpster, disinfecting
toys weekly, wiping down counters, tables and washing cups/dishes used as needed, and sweeping up any food crumbs.
2. Diaper changes will be done as needed. Parents will be asked to provide diapers and wipes for their children.
3. When behavior of a young child needs to be corrected, redirection to another activity will be tried. If this is ineffective, a time-out can be used. If behavior continues despite these efforts, parent will be contacted. No corporal punishment will be used in the nursery.
4. Maintain the sign-in/out sheet for the nursery, release children only to person or persons designated on the list.
5. Be sure persons wishing to “visit” the nursery are given permission
by the workers on duty and not just allowed to walk in
6. Not allow older children to run or play roughly in the nursery.
7. Maintain a cheerful and positive attitude around children and parents.
8. Teach age-appropriate Bible story/lesson on Sunday mornings and during VBS, with provided curriculum.
9. Allow eating in the nursery only at the table provided (or highchair for infants).
10. Perform others duties as assigned by the Children’s Committee
*No medication shall be administered to any child while in the FBCVM nursery, regardless of parental request or permission
